Chairman's Chat (Previous issues)

December 2011

I as I enter my final year in the present stint as Chairman, I have safe knowledge that following the recent AGM the club is financially stable and there is strong committee to take the club forward. Ian Vout has stepped forward as Vice Chairman and will spend the year gaining valuable information to continue with the clubs success. Leaving the Chairman’s role will allow me to spend more of my time working on the Club’s main events, the Corinium Run, Corinium Stages Rally, and also work on another classic tour in the South West.

The club has had to adapt over the last twelve months to the challenges facing club motor sport, a task, which has not been easy, but one I feel keeps the club in a strong position for the forth coming years. When the club entered into running a stage rally again, history has shown that such an event often dilutes the clubs personnel resources, the few who orgainse such events only have limited time and some of our club events may have suffered as the stage rally took priority.

The club continues its 12 car navigational series throughout the winter months under the guidance of Ben Jefferis, details of these events can be found elsewhere in this magazine, the 2012 season see’s forty consecutive years of running for this series, with a fine list of winners that adorn the trophies originally donated by Vice Presidents, Rod Hibbard and Will Jarvis, hopefully theses two VP’s will be present at the 2012 prize giving to hand these out.

The 60th Anniversary celebrations activities are now being orgainsied with planning meetings taking place. I have recently completed the first route survey of the Welsh Tour, an event that will retrace some of route used by the clubs first annual rally run back in 1953. A big thank you to Sam Field, Doreen & David Richards for helping produce a 400 mile road book in two very long days. Entries will be limited for this event to approximately 15 cars, so entries will be at a premium.

I wish you all seasonal greetings and welcome your support in any way you can offer for 2012 which is shaping up to be one of our busiest and hopefully memorable & enjoyable for many years.
